ABRSM Exams - 2025/2026 syllabus

This week, I spent some time reviewing the latest syllabus for the ABRSM examinations and was truly impressed by its content. It's clear that the leading UK examination board is working to make the exams more accessible to a broader audience.

A particularly noteworthy example of this is found in one of the earliest examinations, known as "Initial Grade." Traditionally, candidates were required to play three pieces, with "List A" typically featuring studies or items focused on technique. To my great delight, this year’s List A for Initial Grade includes "Clocks" by Coldplay.

Without a doubt, there are a few technically demanding and rather tricky bars at the beginning and end of the piece, which contribute to its distinctive sound.
